I am a contemporary Canadian landscape artist. I'm a visual story teller engaged in a mad race against time. recording disappearing pre-urbanized landscapes, as cities swallow land in fertile temperate zones. I use Elemental Texture, Luminous Colour, Symbolic Shapes and Lyrical Line and a process I have developed and call Glazed Acrylic. also see me on instagram @robinbarattaartist

Dancing Palms

Dancing Palms, Diptych
One of our favourite places on earth is Hunting Island SC, this barrier island is exposed to the Atlantic, and barely above sea level, which puts it at great risk from the changing weather patterns. This group of palms is just off the campground beach path, even though there have been successive devastating hurricanes recently, they still stand. Their neighbouring Pines have succumbed, the Live Oaks have had much damage, but the silly mop head palms survive. There is something to be  said for being  flexible, and able to shed your fronds when the going gets tough.
Be like a palm, dance your way through the hurricanes of life.

Restoule

Restoule Provincial Park, Painting Northern Ontario, Robin Baratta

This was the one of the very first paintings in my signature 'Glazed Acrylic' style. We were camping in our tiny first RV, and I decided to do some experimenting... the rest as they say is history!

Restoule Provincial Park in Northern Ontario is defined by ancient cedar trees, and high Canadian Shield rock cliffs.  Time on a human scale seems inconsequential here.
