I am a contemporary Canadian landscape artist. I'm a visual story teller engaged in a mad race against time. recording disappearing pre-urbanized landscapes, as cities swallow land in fertile temperate zones. I use Elemental Texture, Luminous Colour, Symbolic Shapes and Lyrical Line and a process I have developed and call Glazed Acrylic. also see me on instagram @robinbarattaartist

To The Beach

                                                                             To the beach

The path to the beach, well traveled by the local's and a few in the know out of towners.... this particular path is to one of the few places where our furry companions can swim and cavort on a hot summers day, chasing sticks and balls and sometimes a friend. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but for those who love a dog, it's heaven on a summers day.

Distant Glimmer

Distant Glimmer

Water and the land go hand in hand. Water is sculptor, over time creating the rolling hills, stream beds and  hidden hollows. This land was shaped by melting glaciers and holds may treasured spaces, 'pot hole' lakes, 'misfit' streams and flat water washed flood plains. The richness of those glacial flood plains is a treasure beyond compare, one we should not be careless with.

Barn Bridge

Once upon a time, barns were wood, and red, barn red that is. The livestock was below and the hay above. Nothing smelled as good as the hay loft, there was a somewhat scary ladder and often a rope to swing from.  The tractor pulling the hay wagons (or horses if your old enough to remember them) climbed the Barn Bridge, bales were pitched into the loft if you were strong enough or there might be a platform that was loaded and lifted.

Wooden barns are an endangered species now. Too many have burned or fallen down, and modern farmers look to more durable materials.  Understandable, but they lack the character and romance of the old wooden barn.

The Vine

The Vine, has been growing on this fence rail for generations, so long that most of the fence has succumbed to the combined forces of time and nature. With a sinewy base and 'branches' as big around as a  mans wrist it is a testament to tenacity.

With a little luck and good management hopefully it will continue to amaze generations to come.

transitions

Taking the backroads in mid spring, it's delightful to watch the transition from spring's promise to summers fullness, the brown fields are turning green the trees are filling out, and the world comes to life once more...
